NARBETHONG
AV Presentation #2

Narbethong the Movie
A second presentation of the AV will be on the night of March 3 at the rooms of Melbourne Camera Club.
Start time is 8pm sharp, so be there by 7:45pm to grab your seat.
I would appreciate an RSVP asap so we can gauge how many seats to setup.
The AV is now on sale for $20 and a number have been ordered already. If you wish to order a copy of this 40 minute presentation, send me an email.
roncork@optusnet.com.au
All proceeds from the sales, after material expenses, go directly to the Narbethong chapter of the CFA.
Print Exhibition
(no new news as at 1/2/10)
A print exhibition is still possible. I have been given an invitation to stage an exhibition of bushfire prints at a large CBD gallery site, at no cost, which I accepted. The latest on this is that the invitation went out to a number of organisations (And I thought it was just for us) so I expect when they sort it all out, our contribution will no doubt be limited. More information will be posted here as details are fleshed out.
Because of the changed conditions of this WTC show, a Narbethong-only exhibition is still very much a possibility in the new year.
The criteria for the WTC exhibition have yet to be finalised, but the details below are still a good guideline.
It seems with so many groups involved, images will not be limited to those in just the Narbethong area.
Prints can be colour, B&W or toned, they are your images so you may present them as you wish but remember that this is a curated show so I am assuming that selection of prints will be adjudicated.
All prints should be your best work
. If you need help with printing, mounting, framing, just ask and I will try and put you intouch with the right people.
The size of the prints has yet to be finalsed. They will be either regular exhibition-size 16x20 (400x500) or possibly larger.
The aspect format is interchangeable. In other words, you can orient the print in either landscape or portrait format.
We have yet to finalise this but I would suggest at this point that prints will need to be mounted onto gallery-white (off-white) mount board with an aperture that gives 3inches (75mm) of matte surround to the print.
Stay tuned for more on this.
Canvas prints may be acceptable so frames would be redundant in this format.
Panoramics may also be acceptable in this new venue, but this too has yet to be discussed. It comes down to the space, availability, shape, place.
Frames will be plain matte black, gallery style (narrow width).
Only a limited number of prints will be selected for display. This is governed by the available space. The exhibition will be curated so not every print will be accepted for the display
There are discussions being held with the appropriate authorities regarding permission for these prints to be made available for public sale. If permission is granted, a 25% commission on each sale will be paid to the town's bushfire restoration fund, the remaining 75% of the sale fee stays with the photographer. I am not expecting commissions on sales to be asked for by the gallery.
At the conclusion of the exhibition, if a 'no sale' policy is stipulated, all prints will be returned to their owners.
If a 'yes' to sales is adopted, prints may be removed from the exhibition by the new owners and replacements hung, so spares and alternatives will be required.
More details as they arrive.
REMEMBER: Copyright stays with the photographer, always.
NOTE-1
Because the AV is now available for public sale, appropriate photographer, property and model releases will need to be obtained. These releases will only apply to the sale of this AV/DVD and are required to cover images in the AV from unauthorised use or exploitation. The releases will not cover images put on sale by the individual photographers or in a photographer's personal AV production.
All photographers must obtain their own releases of property and people appearing in any images used in products for commercial release.
This last part is very important as there are still a lot of very sensitive people in these images and some of them have very strong views regarding the unauthorised use of their images, be warned - see Note 2.
NOTE-2
Property and Model Releases
This is both a town ruling and a legal obligation
You cannot use any images of private property, captured whilst on or off the property, for any commercial or promotional purposes, nor sell them individually or as a collection, or include them in a portfolio that is intended for use in promoting a business of any description, even if the portfolio is considered (by you or others) to be of 'personal work', without the express permission and approprietly signed releases of the property owners.
A signed model release, from each person, is also required if you intend to use images that include recognisable people.
NOTE-3
You may use your images in club competitions
For the time being you CANNOT display them on your web page.
This restriction is only until the AV is presented to the town on January 8.
