CHiPA - Camera club camp to Melville Caves

CHiPA Camp-out at Melville Caves

On the Grand Final long weekend 13 members of Central Highlands Imaging & Photographic Association (CHiPA) headed bush for the inaugural CHiPA camp-out at Melville Caves in Victoria.  Inspired by the presentation  the Astrophotography at the CHiPA workshop on the 25th of September by local astronomer Darren Bellingham we went with a plan to shoot the night sky and just quietly we think we did pretty well!

We had an absolute ball thanks to all the CHiPAs that were able to attend the camp-out;  it was a wonderful way to practice what we had learned at workshop, share ideas and help each other out.  We thoroughly enjoyed the campfire yarns and we are looking forward to heading bush for another camp-out down the track.

A big thank you to Darren for the inspiring presentation and we can honestly say that many of us are hooked and cannot wait to explore the night sky and its astronomical wonders further!

Here are some of the night sky photos taken over the weekend, we hope you enjoy them.

CHiPA camp-out did not only focus on the beauty of the night sky, a fair bit of daytime trekking went on as well!
