Ian van der Wolde Presentation - Long Exposure “Serenity Through the Lens” Saturday 9.35am - 10.35am
Join me for an engaging presentation on the art and craft of long-exposure photography. I’ll share the thought processes that guide my work, from visualising a scene before the shutter opens to understanding how time itself becomes a creative tool. We’ll explore the power of minimalistic composition, the pursuit of serenity, and the sense of calm, deliberate control that long exposures allow—transforming ordinary moments into refined, atmospheric images. Throughout the session, I’ll offer practical tips and tricks to help you master fine art long-exposure photography, including how to choose the right conditions, work with filters, manage light, and create clean, balanced frames with intention. Whether you’re new to the technique or looking to refine your approach, you’ll leave with clear, usable insights to elevate your own long-exposure work.
Workshop - Colour Management Made Simple - Saturday 3.15pm - 5.00pm
In this practical and easy-to-follow workshop, I take the mystery out of colour management and show that achieving accurate, consistent colour is far less complicated than many people think. Together, we walk through a complete colour-managed workflow—from capture right through to final print—so attendees can confidently take control of every stage of their image-making process.
We begin with the foundations: understanding colour spaces, setting up Photoshop’s colour settings correctly, and establishing reliable white balance at the point of capture. From there, I demonstrate how to maintain colour accuracy throughout the editing process, ensuring your files remain consistent and predictable across devices.
Participants then learn how to prepare images for print, including soft proofing, profile selection, and understanding paper characteristics. I also cover best practices for output to screen, web, and other media to ensure your images look their best wherever they appear.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced photographer looking to refine your workflow, this workshop provides clear explanations, real-world examples, and practical tips designed to simplify the entire colour management journey. By the end, you’ll feel confident, in control, and ready to produce beautifully accurate images every time.

Cedric Robertson Saturday 11.35am - 12.35am Presentation - Does your Priceless Photo collection have a single point of failure?
You are all unique, and what works for one does not necessarily work for another. Best Practices – We look at the pipeline from concept, pre-production, gear check, shooting, off-loading and the all-important storage. You can cherry-pick what will work best for you and at a budget you can afford. Is speed a criterion? What about redundancy? Do I need an LTO, JBOD, DAS or NAS? When is an SSD not needed in the pipeline? In the presentation, practical demonstrations will take place and equipment will be on show. The presentation is +/- 20 minutes, and the rest of the hour is for Q&As and trying out your own gear (any brand) with SDXC, CFexpress type A (Sony) and B cards and card readers (USB-C and Thunderbolt). Photographers who work in teams (2 people make up a team) and want to work off storage at the same time – come and test the NAS on show

Lead by Chris Filshie, VAPS Committee member. - Saturday 3.15 pm – 5.00pm Workshop Action Sports (Water Skiing)
This practical workshop will give participants the opportunity to test and improve their sports photography skills. The experienced and award-winning skiers from the Mulwala Waterski Club Show Ski Team will perform solo and group runs on the Murray River, showcasing Tricks, Slalom, and Show Skiing on skis and barefoot. Be prepared for plenty of action!
Chris, along with members of the Finley & District Camera Club, has gained plenty of experience in photographing water skiing at 3 World championships, several Oceania region, national, and state championships. Their photos from these events have been published on Social Media, on State, National and International Waterski websites and publications, and in the press.
While the workshop will be based on the riverbank or dock, some lucky participants will be able to photograph from on board the ski boats, giving a totally different perspective and experience. Participants should be familiar with 'Manual Mode' on their camera and bring a 'long' lens (300mm +), tripod/monopod (optional), and be prepared for cool/damp weather for themselves and their gear.
Participants will receive a Guide sheet, suggesting appropriate aperture, shutter speed, ISO, metering, focus modes, and tips to help get the best results.
Parking is limited at the location, so participants will need to carpool.
In the event the workshop cannot be held due to particularly inclement weather or safety reasons, there is a “Plan B”!
